Absolutely!

When one of my best friends came to visit me in Nepal, she was eager to explore the mountains. However, with her knees not in the best shape, a long trek wasn’t in the cards. So, what did we decide to do? We packed our bags and set off on a short but delightful trek to Kapuche—a hidden gem that turned out to be much more than just a “mini-adventure.”

We flew to Pokhara, hopped into a jeep to Sikles, and wow—Sikles itself is worth the journey. This charming village is filled with character and surrounded by lush green hills. We spent a day there, soaking in the mountain winds and preparing for our trek.

The following day, we began our hike toward Kapuche, and let me tell you this was no mere quick walk. We trekked through misty forests, enjoyed views of towering peaks, and were fortunate enough to spot some of Nepal’s wildlife: red pandas, langur monkeys, and more birds than I could count. Yes, it was a short trek, but it was filled with some incredible wildlife encounters!

Kapuche Lake is a whole different experience. The lake is enchanting—crystal clear, fed by glacial waters, and it has a soothing energy about it. We stayed the night close by to the lake at a charming trekking lodge, listening to the sounds of nature and feeling completely at peace. Sometimes, it’s these brief trips that allow you to truly absorb the beauty around you.

When we returned to Sikles, the local Gurung community was celebrating a festival. Imagine this: everyone gathered around a fire, singing, chanting, and sharing stories under the stars. We didn’t need weeks to connect deeply with Nepali culture; we found it in just a few days. This is the charm of short treks—providing a taste of everything from nature’s beauty to the essence of local communities.

On our way back, we took the opportunity to relax at Begnas Lake and in Pokhara. Dipping in the lake, quiet reading by the water, and letting the experience sink in—this was the perfect ending. For any traveler short on time, this blend of adventure and relaxation will be just perfect.

If you’re still unsure and want advice on whether a short trek in Nepal would suit you, just reach out anytime and we can discuss it together. Find out more about the Kapuche Trek or contact me directly!

Hope to see you on the trails!

Why Trekking in Nepal can be scary https://yogatreksnepal.com/2024/11/06/why-trekking-in-nepal-can-be-scary/ https://yogatreksnepal.com/2024/11/06/why-trekking-in-nepal-can-be-scary/#respond Wed, 06 Nov 2024 08:59:26 +0000 https://yogatreksnepal.com/?p=31959 Let’s be honest, when you think about going treks in Nepal, one of the scariest things isn’t just the towering mountains or rugged terrain—it’s the uncertainty. There’s not always a lot of detailed information out there about the safety of the trails, and it is pretty easy to understand why some people would find it a little daunting. I get it! When I was planning for my first trek, I too felt a little anxious, not entirely sure if my excitement for it was worth the risk.

But let me let you in on a little secret: although trekking in Nepal can be a daunting task, it is anything but unsafe. If the right precautions, preparation, and support are available, this can indeed become a not only rewarding experience but also one that is well-managed in terms of safety. Let me relate a story from one of my treks that should set your mind at rest.

A Slippery Situation in Langtang

I was with a group of wonderful ladies during a yoga trek in Langtang, one of the most beautiful trails in Nepal. We were descending from the top, and the mountains had just been dusted with a fresh blanket of snow. The day was absolutely perfect: cloudless skies, the sun shining upon us, and the snow glistening in every direction. We felt as though we were going through some sort of winter wonderland.

As we walked down, none of us realized that there was hidden ice below the beautiful snow. Suddenly, one of our trekkers slipped and broke her wrist. At first, there was a momentary shock – how could something like that happen in such a magical place?

But here’s the amazing part: we didn’t panic because we were prepared. We quickly made a sling out of a scarf and after assessing the situation, set off to the nearest village. From there, we called her insurance company, and in no time, a helicopter came to take her directly to a hospital in Kathmandu. The whole thing was seamless, and before we knew it, she was safe and being taken care of. And to top it off, she later said she loved the helicopter ride with incredible views along the way.

These kinds of bumps along the way never take away from the joy of the journey. Instead, they are reminders of how safe and supported we are out here. Trekking in Nepal isn’t about avoiding the challenges of nature—it’s about embracing them and knowing that there’s always a solution, a helping hand, and a plan in place.

Between our experienced guides, first aid training, and the accessibility of helicopter evacuations (yes, even in remote areas!), we’ve got your back. And I have seen time and again what a game changer a good travel insurance can be. Since I have no allegiance to any particular insurance company, I can provide you with few options that I have liked for the treks here.

The mountains have their way of teaching us to be present, to trust, and to lean on the support systems around us. So if you’ve ever felt nervous about trekking in Nepal, I promise you that I’ve felt the same so I understand. If you want to ease your mind further or want to know more, you can always get in touch.

I hope to see you on the trails!

Never Done Yoga? Here’s Why a Yoga Trek Is the Perfect Place to Start https://yogatreksnepal.com/2024/08/14/news-post-2/ https://yogatreksnepal.com/2024/08/14/news-post-2/#respond Wed, 14 Aug 2024 04:08:25 +0000 http://localhost/jess/?p=30995 Wondering if you can enjoy a yoga trek even if you’ve never stepped on a yoga mat before? The answer is a resounding yes!

Here’s why a yoga trek is perfect for everyone—whether you’re a seasoned yogi or a total beginner:

  • Flexibility: Each yoga class is optional. While it’s beneficial to join all sessions, there’s no pressure. If you feel like sleeping in or resting instead of attending an evening class, that’s perfectly fine!
  • No Prior Experience Needed: Yoga is a journey, and it’s all about practice. You don’t need to ‘be good’ at yoga—just come with a positive mindset, and you’ll do great.
  • Enjoy the Journey: A yoga trek is about more than just reaching a destination. Our classes will help you stretch and refresh after a day of trekking and get you ready to tackle the next leg with renewed energy._

Many of our beginner trekkers have said how wonderful it feels to stretch at the end of each day and wake up with yoga before the day’s adventure. One participant shared: ‘I didn’t expect to love yoga this much! The morning sessions gave me energy, and the evening sessions helped my muscles recover for another day of trekking.’

So if you’ve never done yoga before, don’t worry! There’s no better time to start than on a yoga trek, surrounded by nature, with support at every step. Come with an open mind, and you’ll leave feeling stronger, rejuvenated, and inspired.

How does yoga benefit trekking? https://yogatreksnepal.com/2024/08/14/news-post-1/ https://yogatreksnepal.com/2024/08/14/news-post-1/#respond Wed, 14 Aug 2024 04:08:21 +0000 http://localhost/jess/?p=30994 It’s well known that yoga and trekking each have their own wonderful benefits, but have you ever thought about combining the two? If you’ve ever wondered what that experience might offer, you’re in for a treat.

In my years of running Yoga Treks in Nepal, I’ve welcomed people of all ages and experience levels. What I hear time and time again from my clients is that yoga has been a highlight and an unforgettable part of their journey. Practicing yoga on the trails offers a chance to reflect inward, listen to your body, and express gratitude for what you’ve achieved each day. Stretching out tired legs and muscles after a long trek brings a deep sense of relief and relaxation. Many clients have said how different—and more profound—the experience of doing yoga in nature feels compared to a studio or home practice. For those new to yoga, the trek often inspires them to continue practicing once they return home. What better way to start than in the beautiful mountains?

The Benefits of Yoga While Trekking:

A Wellness and Adventure Holiday in One:
Yoga elevates the entire trekking experience. By combining mindfulness and stretching with the physical adventure of walking ancient mountain trails, this unique trip offers one of the most rejuvenating holidays possible, nourishing both body and mind.

Reduced Risk of Injury:
We all know the importance of stretching before physical activity, and this principle applies just as much to trekking. Yoga helps increase body awareness, allowing you to tune into your strengths and limitations. This can help you recognize when to rest and avoid overexertion, reducing the risk of post-hike soreness or injury.

Decrease Stress and Anxiety:
Yoga is well-known for its stress-reducing benefits, helping us manage emotions in the midst of life’s fast pace. Trekking in nature naturally slows us down, and combining it with yoga can help you return home feeling more grounded and refreshed. A yoga trek gives you tools to handle stress more calmly in your daily life.

Practicing Yoga in Nature:
For yoga lovers, practicing in nature is a dream come true! Imagine doing yoga in grassy fields, on rooftops with views of the Himalayas, or by the side of a peaceful lake. It’s truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

Improved Lung Capacity:
Trekking through different terrains and higher altitudes can challenge your breathing, but yoga teaches breathing techniques that can help calm the nervous system. These techniques make it easier to pace yourself, preserve energy, and stay comfortable during your hike.

Increased Flexibility:
Yoga improves flexibility, which can be incredibly helpful while trekking. You may need to navigate tight spaces, climb large rocks, or move across uneven ground. Being more flexible makes these movements easier on your body and helps you navigate challenging trails more smoothly.

Yoga can transform your trekking experience, whether you’re a beginner or an advanced practitioner. If you’re ready to embark on a fulfilling yoga trek through some of the most beautiful landscapes in the world, check out our upcoming treks.
