Let’s be honest, when you think about going treks in Nepal, one of the scariest things isn’t just the towering mountains or rugged terrain—it’s the uncertainty. There’s not always a lot of detailed information out there about the safety of the trails, and it is pretty easy to understand why some people would find it a little daunting. I get it! When I was planning for my first trek, I too felt a little anxious, not entirely sure if my excitement for it was worth the risk.

But let me let you in on a little secret: although trekking in Nepal can be a daunting task, it is anything but unsafe. If the right precautions, preparation, and support are available, this can indeed become a not only rewarding experience but also one that is well-managed in terms of safety. Let me relate a story from one of my treks that should set your mind at rest.

A Slippery Situation in Langtang

I was with a group of wonderful ladies during a yoga trek in Langtang, one of the most beautiful trails in Nepal. We were descending from the top, and the mountains had just been dusted with a fresh blanket of snow. The day was absolutely perfect: cloudless skies, the sun shining upon us, and the snow glistening in every direction. We felt as though we were going through some sort of winter wonderland.

As we walked down, none of us realized that there was hidden ice below the beautiful snow. Suddenly, one of our trekkers slipped and broke her wrist. At first, there was a momentary shock – how could something like that happen in such a magical place?

But here’s the amazing part: we didn’t panic because we were prepared. We quickly made a sling out of a scarf and after assessing the situation, set off to the nearest village. From there, we called her insurance company, and in no time, a helicopter came to take her directly to a hospital in Kathmandu. The whole thing was seamless, and before we knew it, she was safe and being taken care of. And to top it off, she later said she loved the helicopter ride with incredible views along the way.

These kinds of bumps along the way never take away from the joy of the journey. Instead, they are reminders of how safe and supported we are out here. Trekking in Nepal isn’t about avoiding the challenges of nature—it’s about embracing them and knowing that there’s always a solution, a helping hand, and a plan in place.

Between our experienced guides, first aid training, and the accessibility of helicopter evacuations (yes, even in remote areas!), we’ve got your back. And I have seen time and again what a game changer a good travel insurance can be. Since I have no allegiance to any particular insurance company, I can provide you with few options that I have liked for the treks here.

The mountains have their way of teaching us to be present, to trust, and to lean on the support systems around us. So if you’ve ever felt nervous about trekking in Nepal, I promise you that I’ve felt the same so I understand. If you want to ease your mind further or want to know more, you can always get in touch.

I hope to see you on the trails!
